Only one year after setting seven official Guinness World Records titles, the Globetrotters broke a single-day total of nine records this year, including the longest basketball hook-shot. The records were broken at the AT&T Center, home of the San Antonio Spurs, during the 12th annual Guinness World Records Day, a global celebration of record breaking launched to celebrate the day the Guinness World Records book sold its 100 millionth copy. Since 2000, the Globetrotters now own 15 current Guinness World Records. We are the original trick shot artists, so it is great to reclaim our records and reestablish our dominance, said Harlem Globetrotters star Big Easy Lofton. We have been training hard so to have a day where we push the limits and try some fun yet challenging shots, is pretty cool. I mean, how many people can say theyre a Guinness World Records title holder? We cant wait to put smiles on people's faces as we demonstrate our skills and talents on the upcoming world tour. 38th Annual Blowing Rock Trout Derby (April 1st)

The 38th Annual Derby begins at sunrise on Saturday, prizes awarded at 4:30pm. Win prizes for biggest fish in separate age categories. No entry fees are required and no pre-registration is necessary. Just take your catch to the official Derby headquarters at the Blowing Rock American Legion Building on Wallingford Street. Children 11 and under and persons with disabilities may fish at Broyhill Park's Mayview Lake. There is a limit of three (3) fish per participant per day at Mayview Lake. All anglers must have a license and obey all posted fishing regulations. The only fish eligible for entry into the derby are freshly caught trout taken from Watauga County public trout waters. TIMES: From: 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM PRICE: Free A FREE family-oriented festival celebrating the unique birding opportunities in the NC High Country! Valle Crucis Park is a popular birding site due to the wide variety of habitats that surround it. These habitats include deep woods, the Watauga River, a small pond and cattail marsh, agricultural areas, and suburban yard habitats. More about Valle Crucis Park: The park is popular with walkers, recreation teams, and families. The park is wheelchair accessible. The park has paved walkways, restrooms (ADA), picnic shelters, tables, a boardwalk, as well as great playground equipment, ball fields, and basketball court. It is immediately behind shopping opportunities at the Mast General Store Annex and Candy Barrel, well known and popular shopping areas with a deli restaurant on site. Restrooms are available at the park as well. Fishing the Watauga River is another popular activity at the park. Weekly Wednesday morning bird walks are held here from March through October. During the festival on April 8: Meet the birds of prey being rehabilitated by the Blue Ridge Wildlife Institute and students at Lees-McRae College; Join one of the bird walks through Valle Crucis Park with the birders of the High Country Audubon Chapter and biology graduate students of ASU; Browse the High Country crafts offered by vendors at the festival

Easter Eggstravaganza (April 8th)

The Annual Downtown Boone Easter Eggstravaganza is a fun, family-friendly event for all ages, held on the Saturday before Easter weekend. The Town of Boone, the Watauga County Library, ASU, the Children's Council and the Downtown Boone Development Association together provide arts & crafts, games, and an exciting Easter Egg hunt for children ages 0-12. The fun starts at 2 p.m. at the Watauga Co. Library located on Queen St. in downtown Boone. Children then "parade" down to the Jones House Community Center, just a hop and a skip away, for more games and an Easter egg hunt. Free refreshments, prizes, and games are provided.
