Cromartie House Description

Welcome to Cromartie House!

Enjoy privacy and views with this special mountain cabin nestled in a hollow above the Watauga River Valley. This cabin sits in one of the most idyllic settings in the High Country. Explore walkable woods around the cabin, brimming with wildlife. Take a half-mile walk back down the gravel road and savor one of the most beautiful mountain landscapes in North Carolina, where the Watauga River winds gently through the valley. Cromartie house does not have direct riverfront access but is located very near many access points.

While the driveway to the house is steep, Watauga River Road is flat and winds along the river's course, and is great for walking, biking, and exploring. On almost any good weather day, you will see kayakers, rafters, and tubers enjoying the river. There are many excellent trout fishing spots along the road and many good access points for the river. Take a short drive to the famous Mast General Store which opened in 1883 and still sells a cup of coffee for 5 cents. They frequently have live music and have a fun array of mountain merchandise and lore (www.mastgeneralstore.com). Hop across the street for a delightful lunch or dinner out at Over Yonder, serving Appalachian-inspired cuisine. This cabin is centrally located in the High Country within easy driving distance of Boone, Blowing Rock, and Banner Elk.

The cabin has a king bedroom, queen bedroom, and a third sleeping area which is a fun bunk space, perfect for young kids! There is also a queen sleeper sofa for additional sleeping accommodations. The cabin offers YouTube TV streaming, network TV programming, Roku stick+ streaming in the living room, and Roku TV in the king bedroom.

The owners have recently added a new queen-size sleeper sofa in the living room.
